Traditional Canadian Indigenous flatbread, quick fried bread made by many First Nations. Keeping the dough soft but not sticky lets it fry through evenly without burning the outside before the centre cooks.

Ingredients

2 cupsplain flour
1 tbspbaking powder
1/2 tspsalt
2 tbspvegetable oil
3/4 cupwater
extra oilfor frying

Instructions

Mix flour, baking powder and salt.

Add oil and water. Stir to a soft dough.

Shape into flat rounds.

Fry in a lightly oiled pan over medium heat 4-5 minutes per side until golden.

Serve warm with butter, jam or alongside soups and stews.
