Soft glutinous rice dumplings filled with black sesame paste, served in sweet ginger syrup. Sealing each rice dough wrapper completely around the sesame filling stops it leaking out into the syrup as the dumplings cook.

Ingredients

200gglutinous rice flour
150mlwarm water
80gblack sesame seeds, toasted and ground
50gsugar
50glard or coconut oil
1Lwater for syrup
80grock sugar
3 slicesginger

Instructions

Mix ground sesame, sugar and lard into a paste. Refrigerate until firm.

Mix rice flour with warm water into a smooth dough.

Roll sesame mixture into small balls.

Wrap each ball in rice dough, sealing well.

Bring water, rock sugar and ginger to simmer.

Cook tangyuan in syrup until they float, about 5 minutes. Serve in the ginger syrup.
