2 cupswholemeal flour
1 cupplain flour
1 1/2 tspbicarbonate of soda
1 tspsalt
1 tbspcaster sugar
1 1/2 cupsbuttermilk
2 tbsptreacle or molasses
1 tbspvegetable oil

Mix both flours, bicarb, salt and sugar.

Mix buttermilk, treacle and oil together.

Make a well in dry ingredients. Pour in wet.

Stir until just combined — do not overmix.

Tip into a greased loaf tin. Bake at 190°C for 50-55 minutes.
